What can I expect once I enroll in ASPIRE Summer Reading Camp?

I totally understand and appreciate you want to get to the nitty-gritty of what’s in the camp! Before we jump into those details, is it really about knowing what each section is about, or is it about being concerned that you won’t get the results you want? 

A good question to ask yourself is, how much growth could your child experience if you have a solid plan to support them? How much easier will it be to have an expert creating your plan and supporting you along the way?

Is there any support available if I have questions or get stuck?

You may be nervous about an online option that is not live because it feels like a lot of the work is put on your shoulders. I totally get that feeling!

But think about meal delivery services like HelloFresh. You get all the ingredients measured out and step-by-step instructions (with pictures!), so basically, you dump things in, stir, and enjoy! You get to be the chef (without any of the hard work!).

That’s basically what the ASPIRE Summer Camp is. The assessment is interactive, so I’m the one giving it, we put together your family plan for you, assign the lessons your child needs, and all you have to do is hit play. You’re the “chef” still but we do all the teaching! 

And the best part: if you have any roadblocks, questions, or need anything along the way, we are just an email or a text away from answering your questions and bringing you clarity!

We don’t have much extra time, will this work for us?

If you’re thinking, this will take too long…compared to what? Hiring a private tutor? Trying to plan, prep and get your child excited about learning on your own? Skipping learning altogether and having to do twice the “catch-up”  in the future?

Can I have all my kids join the camp?

Absolutely! We’re kind of like a family pass to Disneyworld (do they have those?!). Anyone in your household who is working on learning to read can join the fun- without the long lines like at Disneyworld! 😆

Will this help my dyslexic, ADHD, or autistic child?

If you’re concerned that your neurodivergent child’s learning differences won’t be addressed and you’ll be stuck with yet another ineffective resource, I get it! As a mom of an Autistic child, I know my son needs options that are flexible for his unique brain.

If this is a self-paced camp, how will it be personalized for my family?

Have you ever had a time in school where you could go through an assignment at your own speed? Your teacher gave you a deadline, check-ins every few weeks with where you should be along the journey, and you could meet with them, get it reviewed and still get support along the way?

That’s kind of like what’s going on here. We’re assessing your child to see what their plan will be, giving you all the materials you need to target those skills, and supporting you evey step of the journey and you get the freedom and the flexibility to go at the pace right for your child and your family.

We are traveling a lot this summer. Will this work for us?

It may seem like “help my child learn to read” will take a ton of time and effort. But with our system in place, you only need to hit play 30 minutes (spread throughout the week) to get some pretty amazing results. You really can’t afford NOT to invest if you’re on the go this summer!

I should add though, you do need internet access so if you’re camping or hiking where there is no service all summer, it may not be the best option.

Can’t I just go on YouTube and find videos to teach my child? How is this different?

Are there a lot of videos on YouTube that are working on reading? Oh yes! 

But if you go to YouTube to try and find out how to lose 10 pounds, how many results will you get? How will you know which ones work for you? How easy is it to give up on YouTube videos or jump around from one approach to another? How many videos are up that are created by people who have never actually done the thing they claim to help with? 

It’s not a matter of free content out there, it’s a matter of finding a solution that actually works on your child's needs with a proven approach and a well-thought-out plan. You will not find that on YouTube, with random apps, or with flashcards and workbooks from the dollar section of a store.

When will we start seeing results?

I know it’s tempting in today’s world to want to see instantaneous results. And don’t get me wrong—after the first week, you’ll have clarity about what your child needs, and after completing the first lesson, your child will already have mastered new skills.

But isn’t it more important to focus on how deeply your child is learning these skills other than how fast they are learning them? 

It reminds me of my son’s swimming lessons. We first got lessons through community ed, pushing him along from level to level. Did he “pass” quickly? Yes! Did he actually know how to swim? No. When we switched to a better pool, with better instruction that worked on what he was missing, it took slightly longer, but he ACTUALLY learned how to swim! I’m way more impressed with the second option!

It’s the same with learning how to read. Some kids will learn faster than others, it’s the nature of how brains are wired. But speed is way less important than effectiveness and building lifelong skills.

When are you opening enrollment again? This isn’t the right time for us.
